Our Deacons at South Woods

Chuck Buchanan

Chuck has been a member of South Woods since 1997. He was born in East Tennessee in 1958, the third of four children, and grew up between Tennessee, Mississippi, & Arkansas. Chuck joined the Navy, where he learned to fly. After his enlistment ended, he matriculated at Henderson State University, & earned a degree in aviation in 1987.
While on furlough in 1994, Chuck visited his sister in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he was introduced to the doctrines of grace. Chuck unexpectedly and providentially spent extended time in Charlotte, coming to know the Lord much more fully through the means of sound, expositional preaching and godly discipleship. Also in God's providence, this was the place where Chuck met and married Suzanne. They have been married over ten years and have two daughters, Carsyn and Ainsley.
Currently, Chuck is employed as a pilot for Northwest Airlines. He is also a Certified Flight Instructor and enjoys introducing beginners to flying. Regardless of the means of service, Chuck desires to live out I Corinthians 10:31: "Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
