
Evidences of Grace
Acts 13: 42-52
March 2, 1997
Introduction
Verse 43: continue in the grace of God, not law, for righteousness. Galatians background.
1. An unusual hunger and desire for the Word of God (v. 42)
a. Not native to us; we tend to run from it
b. The Word exposes (Hebrews 4:12-13); gives light
c. Understand by the Spirit (I Corinthians 2:14 quote)
d. Attend to the preaching and teaching of the Word (v. 44)
2. A spirit of rejoicing (v. 48)
a. A focus, directed joy (v. 52)
b. A joy that is the result of an inner work
c. Fruit of the Spirit, e.g. Philippians, the Epistle of Joy, even in dire circumstances
3. Worship (v. 48)
"Glorifying the word of the Lord"
a. God revealed in the Word
b. Worship in spirit and truth
4. Exercise faith (v. 48)
a. Note the divine election/calling, all grace.
b. Evidence of election best seen in exercise of faith. In antithesis note the willful act of rejecting
the gospel (v. 46) and how they are responsible.
5. Talk about the Gospel (v. 49)
6. Filled with the Holy Spirit (v. 52)
