THE God, not a god
I Samuel 5-6

Israel's wrong theology:

-          Yahweh's caretaker

-          Yahweh dependent upon them

-          Yahweh will always show favor

-          Yahweh is available for Israel's whim

Right theology:

-          God will not be mocked

-          God will triumph over his adversaries - historical incidents

-          God will vindicate his Name

-          God will be revered and worshiped according to his revelation (6:19)

-          God can defend himself (dependent upon no one) - i.e. Gideon contending with Baal
