Consequences
of Sin
II Samuel 13

Quote II Samuel 12:10
View of sin that is common:
(1) "No big deal; everyone does it" - (this is why Hebrews and other Epistles point to Jesus; he did not do it, whatever it might be).
(2) "God understands; he'll forgive"
Jesus' knowledge of our weakness and temptation is not synonymous with indulgence - "Be holy, for I am holy!" Presumption is a certain path to judgment.
(3) "My sin is my business"
This evades the sense of community that is true of everyone. Our sin has effects or consequences in others. Selfishness is evident:
- Failure to see sin's residual effect on others
- Failure to think past the moment of sin to its consequences
- Failure to recognize the selfishness of sin
- Most of all, a failure to live to the glory of God
David's presumption of God's blessings preceded his slippery slope down the path of sin.
